Striking colours make for great shade!
Te Kura o Te Teko in Whakatane needed some shade over the area the kids used for eating and playing.
The shade cover had to be high enough to deter vandalism and poles had to be positioned so vandals would find it difficult to jump from the building or fence onto the cover. Colour and good looks were also on the wishlist.

The Solution
Brian, our local 0800 Sunshade guru, outlined various shade options including shades on poles and hip structures. He discussed the pros and cons of each, and provided recommendations including photos of hip structure shade units.
Te Kura o Te Teko decided on a stylish and striking 10.5m x 9.5m hip unit structure, 2.8m high. The unit is powdercoated in Schweppes Yellow. The sail is Z16 Black fabric with Sunflower Yellow trim. To make the whole process easy, Brian provided plans and specifications to assist with building consent.
The Challenge
During the installation Brian came across underground pipes and electrical cables below ground that did not marry up with the school site and drainage plan. Potentially this could cost the school a small fortune to repair wires and pipes that get in the line of drilling. The ever diligent Brian recommended the school spend a small amount to get a electrical sweep and a drainlayer to identify where the pipes were located. As well as avoiding the immediate dangers, the school now has an invaluable reference tool for future years and projects.

The Outcome
A functional, practical and attractive shaded area to be enjoyed by all! Te Kura o Te Teko were absolutely wrapped with their sunshade and the "totally professional service" they received from 0800 Sunshade. Happy days! |
