Punnet Cafe updates sunshades

June 16, 2010

The Punnet Cafe contacted Don to design a new installation and replace their existing canvas shade.  They were seeking a shade structure that was not only attractive but was functional and water proof.

The 0800 Sunshade Solution

Together with the owners, Don arrived at a design that involved 2 shade sails.  The product Don proposed was Ferrari PVC, as this has good water and dirt repellant features, some very good colours, and a “slick” modern look that fits with the new cafe.

In working with the owner at the landscape stage, Don was able to arrange a few extra anchor points for the large sunshade using railway timber beams that were in keeping with the rest of the cafe style.  These extra points ensured the sail was tight.  Within the concept it also allowed for another more simple but effective shade sail.

The Challenge

As Don designed a large sail structure made from heavy fabric he had to ensure the sail was well supported and had plenty of fall so it did not sag under heavy rain or billow in strong winds.  He incorporated a plastic coated stainless steel wire running from the external corner up to the pole connection, which ensured that the sail was strongly supported and will stop any sagging or billowing from whatever mother nature throws its way.

The Outcome

The Ferrari PVC sail provides great all-year-round weather protection and fits well with the cafe design, while creating an outdoor area that is relaxing and comfortable for the customers at Punnet Cafe.

Another job successfully completed by the team at 0800 Sunshade.
