Is Your School Pool Safe Over Winter?

March 22, 2012

School pools are a wonderful asset over summer – both for competitive sport and weekend recreation. But come winter they can become a maintenance nightmare as well as a safety hazard.

When Hawke’s Bay’s Iona College was looking for a safe and low maintenance solution for their pool over the winter months they approached 0800 Sunshade to help.

0800 Sunshade was able to cost-effectively address both issues by manufacturing a strong custom-made UV-resistant HDPE mesh cover for the 26 x 15metre pool.

Tensioned and held in place by bungee cords attached to robust anchoring points the cover is suspended above the pool by a wire strung along the centre to avoid sag and prevent leaves and other debris from gathering in the centre of the cover.

The nature of the mesh ensures plenty of airflow through the pool.

The end effect: autumn leaves and branches no longer accumulate in the pool thus reducing maintenance; and the strong mesh is designed to break the fall of any child that may slip over the pool’s edge thus reducing the chance of injury.
